Canadian-born Shuckburg was a publisher who was particularly interested in music. He sang in England’s Bach Choir, conducted children’s opera (Britten’s Noye’s Fludde) and was a proficient harpsichordist and pianist. He is best known for his book on Bach, Harmony and Discord, well researched and by no means uncritical.
