Manchester-born violinist Nelson studied at London and Birmingham universities and played in the Royal Philharmonic and English Chamber orchestras. She was best known as a teacher of many now famous violinists including Daniel Hope and Nicola Loud and – in inner London schools – of many often deprived students. She composed pieces for her students to play, such as Stringsongs and Octotunes.
