Birmingham-born Barry Warwick Dominic Griffiths, educated at the Royal Manchester College of Music, was a fine violinist and leader in turn of BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, the English National Opera Orchestra and, especially, the RPO. After retirement in 2004 he coached student orchestras, notably the Lydian Orchestra. As soloist he performed Elgar’s Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending which he recorded with the RPO.
