I wanted to draw readers’ attention to this new book, although I shall refrain from a review for the time being, as it is a fairly hefty tome and I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t actually finished it yet!
Lomax’s book focuses on two giants of library music in the UK: KPM (1956-1977) and Bruton Music (1978-1980). It constitutes what I hope will be the first of several academically inclined texts on the subject of “mood music”, which combines carefully assembled and presented historical information with a certain amount of musical analysis– thankfully not intimidatingly so in either instance, making this a great text for the researcher and the casual reader alike. –DA
