How to use the Light Music Library

If you would like to borrow music from the Library, you must be a member of the Light Music Society - the Library is a non-profit making organisation for use only by LMS members.

For information about the Society and how to join, please see the About the Light Music Society section of the website.

Even if you are not completely sure what you are looking for, please contact us and we will be pleased to help.

Our librarian, Hilary Ashton, or assistant librarians, Helen Andrews and Danny Adams, will be pleased to discuss your needs and deal with the administration necessary.

The Library is usually staffed on Wednesdays and Fridays between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The administration fees charged for hiring music for up to three months are:

  • £25 per set (plus p&p)
  • £35 for suites, selections or longer works (plus p&p).

Please note that payment of these administration fees is due on receipt of the music you are borrowing.

Both of these amounts are for ordinary concert use. For broadcasts or recordings, suitable fees can be negotiated.

We hope to provide the facility to hire music online in due course - an announcement will be made on the website and in the Light Music Society's magazine when this facility is available. In the meantime, please check this page for news of progress.
