This has become a very popular annual event in Edinburgh. The David Lloyd Centre at Newhaven Harbour offers stunning views across the Firth of Forth (including this amazing sunset during the February 2015 course), and is an excellent venue for an enjoyable weekend of chamber orchestra playing.
This year was have an Italian theme - Andrew Lees (formerly a violinist in the Hallé Orchestra) will direct Hugo Wolf's delightful string serenade, whilst Laurence leads the wind and brass in Verdi's powerful and exciting overture. Everyone joins forces for Mendelssohn's wonderful evocation of Italian images, from a pilgrim's procession to the wild energetic Tarantella dance. There will be an informal free-admission concert on Sunday afternoon (ending around 4pm).
